How many of you use thickeners for direct application dyeing?

What thickeners do you use?

What concentrations do you use?

If you thicken--why?

I do thicken my dyes for direct application. I generally use 1/2 tsp lginate/cup of chem water.

I like it b/c it gives me good control.better color and I end up using less dye than if I use um-thickened dyes. Its especially helpful with silk b/c it is generally thinner than many cottons.

I have only been thickening my dyes for about a year now, and I use Superclear from Dharma.  I did try alginate several years ago, but didn't like it.
