hi all.  i'm a mama of 2 young kids from deerfield, il, just north of chicago.

i have been doing my own dyes for just a short while and i am really enjoying it.  many, many moons ago, when i was on the road with dead, i did some dying with my friends to get the cash to make it to the next shows.  we only did crinkles and spirals.

it is great to try my hand at so many other designs.  my mistakes have turned out to be pretty cool looking shirts, nonetheless and not really being mistakes at all.  i have seen some of the amazing work done by the other dyers and it is such an inspiration to me.  the stuff is beautiful.

i want to produce the same high quality looking dyes.  practice, practice, practice especially mandalas.

Glad you're here!  I started out with an instruction book, a starter kit, and little else, 8 years ago.  Since I hooked up with some of these folk a couple of years ago, my skills have definitely improved.  There is nothing like having others of like interests to work with, even online!  I always dreamed of doing mandalas, and only tried them for the first time last summer, after getting Michael Fowler's DVD and Tom and Martine's  VHS on how to tie and dye them.  I have also learned a little about coming up with my own patterns, which is really gratifying.  They're probably not 'mine', but I haven't seen them anywhere else, so I'm claiming them!
Enjoy the process, and let us see the results!

I'll bet your kids love the tie-dye! I know mine do--they got me started a couple years ago and strangely enough it has changed my life!

Be sure to post some of your stuff in the gallery. If you are registered at the forum, you are registered in the gallery too.

Poke around in the wiki too! There is a growing library of fold tutorials there. Better yet, register and add some of your knowledge! If we all pull an oar...

Thanks for stopping in! We look forward to hearing from you!
