I have been playing in the open source playground and have stumbled upon all sorts of interesting software for the site.

Two that struck me in particular are FAQ and Wiki software. Is this of any interest to anyone else? There are also applications photo galleries.

Any interest?

OK Folks--

I have installed TikiWiki on the sever.  Wiki software is designed for collaborative writing (Wikipedia for example). I've poked around the software and it looks interesting. It may be a bit more complex than we need, but we'll see. There is also a less complex phpWiki software that I can install easily (a matter of seconds).

I think it would be great to pool our expertise to create a tie-dye knowledge base. We all mourn the loss of the dirth of knowledge at the old forum. Let's come together and create something new.

Who knows who might come along and contribute over time if we start building a real resource?

What do you think?

Anyone willing to contribute to this effort?

Hi, Steve.  I love the idea!  I got so much out of the resources we had on Michaels forum, and would love to see us be able to build that knowledge base here.  What do you need from us, other than general participation?

What we need are people to share their expertise by writing it up. Some wikis are totally open and allow anyone to write on anything. I guess I'm good with that as long as people register to do it and take ownership and responsiblity for what they post.

I'm mulling this over and playing with the software. Tikiwiki is fairly complex and can include a forum, blogs, galleries, etc. making it almost a content management system. pHpwiki seems rather barebones, but may be simpler.

Individuals interested can PM me and I'll give the urls for the two installations. They can register and poke around the interface if they like.

I've been playing around more with wiki for my students and I am impressed with it as a quick way to create a knowledge base.

Over the next week, I will integrate one here and give it a start. Hopefully I can find one that can integrate the forum's user info as I did the gallery.

If not--maybe I'll just let it work without log ins and anyone can come through and add there info.

Stay tuned!

The Tie-dye Wiki is here!

Give it a shot folks! Don't worry about screwing anything up--it can all be restored. There is also a "sandbox" where you can play around with the formatting!

Together we could create an incredible knowledgebase and resource!
