I dyed a peace sign last night using the technique from Tie Dye 202, not a bad result for a first try, but I would have liked the peace sign to be a lot more bold.  It wasn't the easiest to tie!

I agree the tying is really complex.  I have only done a few peace signs, and as I recall I used thickened dye for the outline and you really have to work it into the folds for it to show up.  Tom and Martine make it look real easy, but they are very experienced dyers.  Guess that's the answer... practice!

I certainly agree with the experience being key, I did not work the dye into the folds at all.  I am excited to try the fold again, and learn from this one!

I did a few peace signs this weekend and they were okay, except they looked like a Y, because I forgot to add the middle line... But, the way I make my peace sign is, I fold the fabric in half, sketch out the design, sew along my line and then bunch it together. After you bunch everything together, You have this weird looking circle thing. Then I use tiny dye applicators and brushes to apply the dye.

This is a bit of a backward version of the Peace sign. It has been an extremely popular version of for me. Those who aren't so much into the multi color (as they put it..."Hippy") yet enjoy vibrant color & design, fall in love with it.

This particular one is a youth T, but I do LOTS of adult sizes too like this one

. It's not difficult to tie, just a bit more time consuming than the crinkle...but aren't all design ties? I personally prefer the crinkle background than the continued ring version as we've seen with hearts, mushrooms etc. Most of my tied design pieces are finished with the crinkle.

Wow! Great work guys, thanks for all of the replies....I have the tie dye 202 DVD but wasn't super crazy about their result, I'd prefer the look where the peace sign is wide and solid so I guess it must be 'drip dyed' I have made a stencil so if anyone uses this technique how do you keep the area flat ? Thanks! The forum is great!
