In the admin panel I have allow users to hide their contact information from all but admin (me). I also have contact info hidden from guests. I am using the latest version of this software, so any known security issues are addressed.
I created an account to test this out, and indeed, unless a member has allowed viewing of email address it says that it is hidden.
Unfortunately, I cannot look at your settings as you have deleted your account.
I have not experienced any such issue, and to my knowledge, no other member has.
As far as receiving email directly through the forum goes--there are settings in your profile:
SMF allows you to be notified of replies to posts, newly posted topics, and forum announcements. You can change those settings here, or oversee the topics and boards you are currently receiving notifications for.
Having set up a test account I see that the following is enabled by default:
Receive reply notification only for the first unread reply.
I believe this is what resulted in your receiving email.
I'm sorry that this makes you "only moderately" unhappy.
Your privacy has not been breached.
Nobody got your email address from this forum unless you allowed it.
I have created this forum as a free service to the tie-dye community. There is nothing in this for me but a couple of banner ads. I pay for the hosting out of my own pocket and have spent hours configuring software and adding content. I do not appreciate such accusations or insinuations. I believe your concerns could have been brought up in a more courteous manner.
