Has anyone ever tried to tie-dye designs that look like knotwork, such as celtic knots?  I have always wondered if this could be done.  The only thing i've seen that comes close is a tie-dye of a cross, but in the cross are some knotwork patterns, either done with resist or else somehow with string.  I will try to take a pic of this T next time my friend wears it.

peace,

There's a band out on the highway.
They're high-steppin' into town.
They're a rainbow full of sound.
It's fireworks, calliopes and clowns --
Everybody's dancing!

That seems to me like it'd be very difficult. The only knotwork on clothing I've done was with a fabric marker, black, on an LWI-dyed t-shirt. I got bored of doing the drawing after finishing the first sleeve - it was just a band of knotwork around the bottom of the sleeve - so that's all there is. It's one of my husband's favorite shirts. I'd rather not take a picture now because it's been worn heavily for many years now. smiley

The book I was using for inspiration was Aidan Meehan's Celtic Design Knotwork: the Secret Method of the Scribes. Pretty, but complex.

I could easily see doing knotwork in wax resist, but I just can't imagine tie-dye knotwork. It just seems like it would be impossible. I'd love to see the results if anyone proves me wrong.
