I was making a shirt for my 18 mo to wear this summer. I had a great idea when I thought of what would be staining it and made a 'mustard, ketchup and relish' combo. It is yellow, orange and green and where they mix looks like chocolate milk! Perfect cheesy
Did anyone else make a mix that worked out well despite the color wheel?
I also accidentally made a really nice purple and yellow scrunch, now I label the bottles!

purple and yellow can be really nice together, it just depends on what you do.  I have a friend who says something like "I can't ever get it to look nice but when my daughter mixes purple and yellow she gets fabulous dyes."  Now this friend is a great dyer but her daughter sees something in that mix that she's just not getting kwim?  I had one combo that included yellow, orange, blue and purple that really had a nice glow to it but I was sure, looking at the bundled piece that it would be horribly ugly.

One of the things people might hesistate to do is overlay in a dark color, black overlay over certain rainbow combos is just fabulous and I'm talking about really slathing on the black after dyeing with the colors.  You might fear loss of your colors but it can really make a piece *pop*.  I remember a lot of talk about an old "chino" that was a fantastic overlay.

I have had great luck doing LWI method with basic blue, lime green, and butterscotch.

For some reason the yellows seem to push other colors leaving  a defining line between the yellow and the other hues... does that make sense?

Another great combo for fall is rosewood, butterscotch and lemon yellow.

I'd like to hear about more great color combos.  I would post some pics but I can't figure out how just yet!

Thanks.. great forum

I have been working with dark green, then overdyeing with orange, rust brown and chocolate brown.  I did a dress, then just finished a shirt for a co-worker.  Here is the shirt:

I actually like how the dress came out better, and it's because the jersey was heavier and the green came out softer and lighter.  The shirt is a lightweight jersey, and the colors came out more intense.  Next time, I will use more water to dilute, I think.
