Glad so see you back!

A lot of old friends have been reappearing of late. I too have not dyed in ages as internet technology stuff has been keeping me busy.

Will be back to more dyeing soon because we are starting to do farmers' markets for our bakery, so it is a natural to bring along shirts.

I also look forward to helping dyers open Internet stores soon!

Steve

Kathy!  Glad to see you back!  You have been missed!  I know what you mean about lack of inspiration... lack of time has played a big part in my not doing more lately as well.  Work, projects around the house, etc... but the weather is prime for dyeing now, soooooo.  I can't wait to see pix of what ever you get working on!

Glad to see you back too, Steve!  Throw out the IT stuff and get back to the fun stuff... it's summer!  But I am intrigued about the Internet store comment.  As you know, I have had my own store for about 2 years now... get lots of lookers, but no buyers yet.  Maybe if we band together, we can be an online force to recon with!

Call me a dweeb, but the IT stuff is fun to me.

I have put zen-cart development aside, but I am looping back into it and will be hitting it hard very soon. First I need to get my blanks store updated to freshen up. I plan on teaching ecommerce and website building as a continuing education class locally this summer, so stay tuned.

I know... been there, done that.  It's just that you do such beautiful dyeing, and we never see any new stuff from you!  Too many other things going on, huh?  Anyway, your classes sound neat!  Have fun!

This got me thinking...lately I've been preparing to list a lot of books for sale on Amazon, AbeBooks, Alibris, and other sites.  These sites are known not so much for being internet bookstores in and of themselves, but for acting as listing services for thousands of independent booksellers, and for people like me who would just like to lighten their collections.

Why can't someone design a site that acts as a listing service for individual tiedyers (no matter how big or how small)?  People could both list their wares on their site, and have a "Storefront" (like on eBay) that can show them off if they're not ready to commit to a whole site, or also take customers directly to their site as well.  A hub for fiber artists in general, or tiedyers in particular.  Does anyone know of such a site?  Steve, you sound like a perfect candidate for such an enterprise...

If you are interested in such a project, PM me. I will set up a private forum to discuss such ideas.

I have been using etsy for selling work online. It's for crafters/artists in general, regardless of medium. There are a few tie dyers on there.

Hey--cool!  I haven't had a chance to explore it yet, just peeked at the front page, will check out the terms and procedures when I'm done yard saleing.    Do you fine that you get a lot of traffic?  I've never heard of it before, and am curious how they get people to go to their site, aside from the efforts of their individual vendors...

Honestly, I have no idea how much traffic it gets. I am kind of new to it, and I haven't sold anything yet. Supposedly it takes awhile to get business. Maybe a site dedicated to tie dye would do better, who knows.

Oops, my apologies for raising this obviously redundant issue, and in the wrong part of the forum.  Have been swamped with family affairs and hadn't caught up to the "Tie-Dye Mall" discussion (from May) in the "Business" part of the forum yet!  If you've wandered into this topic and are interested, Steve did open a private forum there, so take a peek...

Hi Kathy,

I'm glad to see you back. Was sorry I missed you in Tucson, and was a bit worried when I didn't see you on the forum. I'm glad all is well, and hope you get back to your dying. I'd like to do some myself. Something about having a kid in high school now that seems to take up a lot of time...

take it easy
