This shirt is not a discharged black shirt.

This shirt is a discharged black shirt.

This is my first attempt at using Thiox. I found a recipe for discharge paste on the ProChem site. Not the best I've done but a learning experience. I think I prefer the Thiox over bleach. The shirt is a cheap fruit of the loom "undershirt". Came in a pack of 4 for under 10 bucks. The Thiox discharged it to a very pale tan. I used to get shirts from Tultex and man, with bleach they would go almost white. Can't find them anymore. Sad

Can you go into your technique for applying the discharge paste?  Did you use a squeeze bottle?  I did a shirt with a squeeze bottle and my dishwashing gel, but didn't have a lot of success getting the gel into the folds, so I'm really interested in what you did.
Here's how mine turned out:

Kind of splotchy compared to when I apply the dye with a foam brush, and still not enough discharged area to suit me...

Thanks!

Judy,

I actually didn't use as much thickener as the ProChem recipe called for. I ended up with the consistency of a gel.

I first wet the shirt, then I pleated it. I put rubber bands on either side of where I wanted to discharge to make the strip. This left the pleats between the bands kind of loose.

I applied the Thiox with a squeeze bottle over the pleats and in between them, watched it soak in then applied a bit more.

I then steamed the shirt to get it to discharge.

Thanks, Tom.  I tried that and got much better discharge coverage.  I will probably do a little cleanup tomorrow... one side's stripes came out a little fatter than the other... but it is a definite improvement!
