I posted here but I guess I should have read more in other sections.
I have tie dyed clothing before but it was with RIT dye. I didn't realize how much there is to learn to get more professional results. From reading these forums I was introduced to the Dharma Trading Company. I purchased a whole bunch of supplies and was eager to start projects.
Paula Burch has some wonderful ideas and a great website. Thank you Paula

I absolutely fell in love with dancingbarefoot's designs. Was trying to figure out how to do mandalas.
I'm hoping all of you can help me out.
I am including two pictures of my first true tie dye projects. I obviously am having control issues with spreading of colors. I would like more crisp lines.
I didn't know anything about folds for a mandala so I penciled the design on the t-shirt, then I outlined the mandala with blue elmer's glue and let dry. I then handpainted the colors on but they ran. I will admit I like the way the glue seperated lines. I'm not ready to batik.
How can I control the spreading of colors.
Also I stitched my peace sign, which I kind of like but same with that one. Colors ran out and I also made a small tear in the design.
Can you give me some pointers in how I can refine? I would appreciate it tremendously as I'm making these for fellow yogis.
