Hi All,

I've been playing with some ombre dyeing and combining direct dyeing with vat dyeing....

1 •  I've tried soda ashing the garment first, submerging it into the dye bucket then slowly
raising it to get the gradations.

2 •  and I've also tried adding the soda ash into the dye bucket first then slowly
lowering the garment to get the gradations.

Anyone know the preferred method?

I want to try some two color blends and I can't decide which would
be the best way to go.....

And.....does placing a pre-soda ashed garment into a non-soda ashed
dye bucket expend the dye as quickly as when you add the soda ash to
the dye bucket directly?

Hope this makes sense....any insights would be helpful?

Thanks,
Jo

How big pieces are you going to produce? In one of my textile books is used damp cloth on the frame and
they paint it with foam-brush, diluting the shade as-they-go further with the brush.
Do you want to achieve perfectly homogenous ombre or you don't mind some minor irregularities?

Will you show us results you got?

Hi Jaja,

I mostly dye on clothing only....so I've been trying how to work
out an easier way to do gradations on skirts and dresses.

The things I have done have actually sold. After I get some
more completed I'll try to post some pics.

Thanks,
Jo

(How do you pronounce your name?....in my mind I say "Jah-Hah"?

I did a search on YouTube and there actually
was a video on ombre dyeing.....

Yes, the simplicity of just using two buckets (or pots) and
and a spoon evaded me...

Have a great day,
Jo
