Hello,

I was wondering if it was normal to have small pieces of soda ash caked on the fabric once it's dried.  I used distilled water for the soda soak and it appeared that the sada ash was dissolved in the bucket.  Cna I go forward and dye my shirts?

Thanks Diana

I find that happens is if I let the shirts dry out a little too much.
It  makes a pretty cool effect if you dye them that way. but usually
I'll just re-submerge them in the soda ash bucket and then spin
them out in the washer.

Yes it is normal--and that's the way I like it. Nice dry and resistive to soaking the dye. That way I really have to work the dye in thoroughly and twist and squeeze the dye into the fabric. If I miss any it makes glowing white contrasts to thoroughly saturated colors. I like my fabric extremely dry.

If it fights me too hard, I might spritz the shirts with a little water, or even with a diluted solution of synthrapol.
