I am about to do another batch of tie dye shirts, and wanted to give the Spider a try.

I have the shirts tied, and soaked in soda ash solution.  They should be dry by thursday.

I plan on applying black dye to the back of the shirt "disk."

My question is, how does one apply the dye to the front of the disk?

Is is a pie wedge approach, or do you follow the spiral pattern on the disk?

Does anyone know how was the dye applied to the one in the photo on the wiki page?

Thanks, All!

I usually apply the dyes in the pie wedges, just because it's easier to get an even distribution of the colors.
and I actually put color on both sides, then apply very thick black on the flattest side with a foam brush for the 'spider' effect.

Just you need to fold it in the middle and then apply spiral fold. For dyeing you have minimally two options - do it as Judy (thickened black from both sides) or do colorful side first and then apply black to the opposit side (this way you get less legs on the spider)
