I'm experimenting with Elgg--an open source Social Network Platform.

Think: MySpace, FaceBook, Ning, etc. with a slant toward education.

It would have groups, friends, blogs, galleries, files, pages, message boards.

Configurable Profile and Dashboard pages with widgets

To experiment with this software, I need users to populate it.

Is there any interest?

Steve

Sounds good, what are the possibilities? I'm not familiar with any of them. Can I see it somewhere on the net?

I agree with Judy. I can't imagine that yet another social networking site could be as good as the forums and wiki we already have, but I'm happy to be a guinea pig and try it.

Coincidentally I've just been playing with LinkedIn, which was recommended to me for someone I know who's job-hunting. It's been fun to reconnect with former colleagues from years past, but each of these social networking sites does seem to require an investment of time. (Here's a link to view my profile on LinkedIn.)
