I've figured out that I did some experiements, with similiar patterning.

This was done on pole but with discharge.
(silk)

(twisted after pole wrapping)

this was pole wrapped then dyes were applied

This was just accordeon folded and LWId (close to your technique)

All it has something in common. Nothing is exactly like the original pic. How closely do you want to match it?

Have you used thickened dye for this project?

Very nice! Do you have the directions on how to tie it and apply the dye. Thanks.
Luna.

I think I got it this time!  I base-dyed this shirt, rinsed/laundered/spin dried, then rubber banded top and bottom in a loose accordion fold.  Then I vertical-wrapped tightly with sinew, soda soaked, squeezed out the excess solution. Lastly, I painted the darker color on with an inexpensive house painting brush. After letting the shirt 'batch' for about an hour, I untied and did the rinse/launder dry bit.  I think by painting on the dye, it limited the amount of dye, and the sinew (tightly wrapped) blocked the dye from soaking through too much, and created the 'bamboo' markings I was trying to get.
I also think it helped that this shirt is made of a thinner fabric than standard t-shirts, but I'm sure I will be trying with them as well, so we'll see!

Judy, it looks amazing! I'm so glad you posted this. I had a bad day and to see that you mastered the look you were going for made me feel a little bit better.

I should get back in the dye room too. It would get my mind off other things.

Thanks, fiberartist219, I love when I finally get there too!  Hope your day is better today... I had a bad one a couple of days ago myself!  Too much going on, and I needed desparately to exercise, which I did the next day.  Helped me a lot!

I think tomorrow I'll do some dyeing and get some exercise. That sounds like a great plan. It's my day off, and I have tons of blanks laying around waiting for some color. The weather should be pretty good too.

I've been inspired by this too, did my first sinew ties. I didn't use a pole, just scrunched/folded the shirts and tied them to see what would happen, a sort of "baseline." The results weren't nearly as good as they would've been with a pole, but my girls are happy to wear the results and I'm not too embarrassed by them to let them be seen in public. LOL

Later today I'm hoping to try some more stuff with poles if I can find some in the wreckage that is my garage, only recently un-snowbound!

There might be subtle change in pattern, just for fun...dip the brush in different colors. Waddaya say?

I agree, Jaja.  I tried for that effect on this one:
This was a re-tie and overdye to add more color to the top, then I decided to bring the teal color into the red the next time.  This tank is thicker than the shirt I posted previously, so my 'Bamboo' markings didn't come out as well, but the color variation is a good suggestion which I will use again.
