I have been wanting to make tie-dye Sun Visors for a year, and finally got to it this week!  They don't make up really fast, but I love how they look!  I'm going to have to make more of these...

Here is a picture of the fabric I dyed for them:

I almost hated to cut the fabric, but that's what I dyed it for, soooooo... wink

Hi, Jo.  Yeah, the cantelope was a spur-of-the-moment inspiration!  The pattern is Butterick B4147... saw it last year some time, and finally got the pattern last month.  I was never able to understand how to dye pre-made hats!  How do you do it? Only way I could think of was to paint the dyes on, but I wanted the swirl pattern, so figured I would need to dye the fabric and sew the sun visor.  Next project is a tote bag...

I've just done gradations and stripes on the the pre-made ones. But I agree the
swirl really says tie dye like nothing else....I've been working on a rayon sundress
alternative for girls who are no longer little girls but not ready for the woman/junior sizes either.
I get so many customers wanting something but can't find an appropriate blank. If you've come
across anything like that please let me know. I'm not sure I can fit in sewing when
the season starts.....
Hope you had a wonderful winter,
Jo

Hey, Jo.... do the dresses have to be rayon?  DT has a lot of really cute girls' dresses in the latest catalog!  But I don't see any made out of rayon. There is one I'm tempted to get... a smock top dress  that can also be worn as a skirt, but it's 100% cotton jersey.  They go all the way up to size 12... would that work?  check it out... #BCJ240.
Yep, winter was okay, but I'm definitely ready for Spring this year!  How about you?

Hi Judy,
Yes, I've used the BCJ240.....it's been very popular.
i think Dharma was even sold out for a bit last year
and i sold all i had. Nice that it's a skirt and a dress.
I use a lot of the Dharma dresses, little girl on up...there
just seems to less selection in that young teen category.
I get a lot requests for something in rayon like the
BR1 just smaller...I found some at 1 World Sarongs, liked them a lot,
but they were a little too mature....
Washington has had a pretty mild winter.....daffodils are blooming!
But, I'm just not ready to start markets again yet!

Here's my latest Sun Visor:

I accordion-folded the fabric for the visor and dyed using Dharma's Fucshia and Scarlett, and the band was done by using soy wax to batik the stars then dyeing with Dharma's Cerulean Blue.  I only had a small piece of the blue so I wasn't able to 'fussy cut' to center the stars, but I just did a new batch yesterday, so the remaining ones will have a little more professional look.  Just in time for Independence Day!
