Hey:

I attempted my very first diagonal pleat a few days ago, and the results are in:

Some observations:

1.  I don't expect (or attempt) perfection in the pleats, but next time, I think I'll try to keep it a little narrower.

2.  I'm learning that one of my favorite color combos is Yellow/Orange/Black, which I call "Candy Corn".  Makes sense, as I love Halloween!

3.  I should have used more black dye outside the pleats.  Despite squeezing the material to spread the dye uniformly, the black parts still came out somewhat uneven.

That said, I'm still 80% happy with the result.

My pleats don't come out that nice - pretty color combo too!

I have trouble getting my blacks to behave themselves as well, but that's also how I found that when I need a truly dark midnight blue, I just use a little less black. LOL

Thanks, deb.

I've actually been surprised and delighted by how "black" my blacks have turned out for the most part.  I thought they'd wash out to some tone of gray, but I followed Dharma's recommendations to the letter, and they have remained dark and inky.

The problem with this shirt wasn't the black dye itself, but that I didn't use enough of it.  Still, on reflection, I'm beginning to warm up to the uneven distribution in the "solid" zone.  I think it might even add interest!

I actually prefer some uneven-ness. Otherwise it almost looks too good, like it was stamped on, like fake tie-dye. This looks for-real!  cool
