This stems from a posting to the dyerslist and I wanted to post about here as an FYI and get feedback as to what the creator of the tuturial might have been thinking.

So anyways, it was posted that this person had taken an online tutorial/class on tie-dyeing. Part of the information stated that the dye must be used within 24-48 hours after the soda ash had been added.

This blatently flies in the face of what most(all?) dyers know, that the window is about 2 hours.

Thoughts?

Kathy--

Could you quote the text from the list?

I agree--that makes no sense!

"once soda ash has been added to the liquid dye mixture it must be used
within 24-48 hours or the colors will become unstable"

She stated that the class was using mx dyes. Are there are dyes you would use soda ash? The "unstable" part throws me too. I don't see colors as being unstable but just plain ol' reacted with the h20.

I was hoping to see a response from someone on the list but hadn't so I came here to see if we could shed light on it. wink  I wish I knew what site the tutorial came from.
