So I've been on tenterhooks about this dress I agreed to do with a dip-dye/ombre effect. customer wanted a greenish/blue, so mixed up a nice one with nothing but Turquoise and Yellow (both primaries) and went to town. Made sure to hang it in my shower overnight, nice warm temps (I'm in the mid-Atlantic and my thermostat is set for 80, and the bathroom is warmer than the rest of the house, so probably a good 82 or so to batch overnight for 10 or so hours in an insane heat wave).

Wok eup this morning to find that while the top of the dyed area was a nice bluish color, the further down I went on the skirt of the dress, the greener it became! As far as I can make out, the yellow "sank"!

Fortunately the customer was pretty good about the photo and asked if I could "blue it up" per my own suggestions - she had, after all, asked for turquoise, not Kelly Green or even Spring Green a la Crayola, but I was surprised at this. Is it me, or did the yellow dye particles indeed respond to gravity and head downward from the dress being hung while batching?

The turquoise treatment worked out great - now how much to charge for it?!?!?

I'd say it was not matter of gravity of yellow but rather of blue climbing higher due to higher diffuse rate. You can experience this with many color mixes.

When using yellow I usually get yellow "creep", and when using turquoise I get turquoise "creep," but usally the two balance each other out, so I was surprised to get such a difference.
