What do you think?  I don't sew, so I may be biased...is it as different an art form as batik or discharge?  they all use the same dyes?

Tritik is the Indonesian word for tiedye, although I believe the word refers to using a running stitch (needle and thread) to form the folds of the design. Shibori is the all inclusive word in Japanese for tiedye and there other words in other languages.

Batik is a technique using the application of hot wax on fabric to resist the dye.
The wax is usually applied multiple times between multiple dye applications to build up color.

Discharge is a technique to remove color from cloth. This technique can be used with any form of of tiedye, using the discharge agent instead of dye. There several discharge agents available to the casual or semiprofessional dyer, each with it's own parameters.

Most tiedyers use cellulose textiles and fiber reactive dyes (procion mx) and all of the above techniques can be used with these dyes.
