These are some t-shirts I'd like to share with everyone from my 2nd and 3rd ever attempt at dying.
I'm quite proud Cheesy

I know I have lots to learn still, but I like them Tongue

Hope you like looking at these pictures, any feedback would be greatly appreciated Cheesy

This one actually went hideously wrong.  It started out as a smiley face, but I started by doing the eyes as those were the bits I was most nervous about.  Yep.  The eyes ran everywhere!  Still looks quite cool I think though Smiley

The four previous ones were done mostly with dylon dyes.  Not amazing colours!  After those I used Procion MX dyes.  Boy are they better!

I think I tied this one a bit too tight

Attempt at a 5 pointed star, but miscounted the number of points lol.  DOH!

This spiral went horribly wrong, but, it has a certain charm to it.  I refer to it as my surfer top as I always think of waves when looking at it

FRONT

BACK
Much prefer the effect on the back

I also tried my hand at "Reverse Tie Dying" using stencils and bleach...

This was my first attempt.  A KISS one.  In this photo it's drying off after being in the wash.  I realised that I need much bigger stencils!!!!!

Second attempt...

This is the one I tend to get most feedback from (Mostly from geeky males as it's a racial symbol from the computer game Strcraft 2)
This is my favourite reverse dye

An attempt at making Darkwing Duck for a friend

Still experimenting here.  Thought that this would have come of with a better contrast but really disappointed in it Sad

Wow!  You are having fun!!  Glad you found Procion MX dyes... the colors can't be beat!  And I love that you are trying all different patterns.  I love your reverse dyed pieces... are you using bleach/water solution?  Very interesting patterns!

Nice work.  It was very brave of you to try a Happy Face so soon.  My daughter and I have been dyeing for years and almost everything is tied by her and dyed by me -- except Happy Faces.  She insists on dyeing those herself because she's afraid I won't be as careful with those eyes.  She blots them after she dyes them and then caps them tightly with plastic wrap.

I agree with Judy about the Procion MX dyes.  They're the best.

Good luck in your dyeing adventures!

Welcome!

I really like color selection and how the
hooded sweatshirt came out.
And the discharge pieces are fun too.

Hope you keep playing and sharing,

Jo

tiedyejudy - Yea, I'm using a solution of bleach and water.  After experimenting we've discovered that "Thick bleach" works much better than normal bleach.  Have various bottles with various different concentrations in.

Here's a few more that got knocked up yesterday (All discharge pieces - the actual tie dyes are still sat setting)

My mate tried a heart, went wrong, and looks more like a guitar plec.  Love it!

Custom Leatherface dye

Custom Freddy Krueger dye

Really like the 2 little hearts that have come out in this...  Can you spot them?

And finally...
Think this is my all time favourite top
Ever!

That last one is glorious; truly exceptional, even on this site.  And that's saying something!

I hope it doesn't disintegrate in the wash... I kinda gave up on bleach after my discharge tees started falling apart.  I'm sure there's a perfect medium somewhere, but it's not worth it to me to find where that is-- too much work for too much heartache...

I do occasional discharged shirts, and use 'Bleach stop' to preserve the fabric.  But I'm leaning toward multiple dye batches to try and get a similar look... dye the lighter color first, rinse/wash, tie and soda soak, then overdye with black.  I think I can get a close enough resemblance to discharge dyeing to satisfy me... I'll post pix when I've had time to do a few.
