I've been dyeing for almost 14 years, and most of that time I have used the pre-mixed colors I can get at Dharma (Pro-Chem is on the east coast, and I'm in the west, so I go to DT to save shipping).  But recently, I have been doing a little experimenting to come up with some custom colors that I can't find at my sources.  I thought it might be nice to have a source for posting swatches and recipes for those of us who like to do a little mad-scientist experimenting from time to time!  So here's my first:  Copper.  The dyes are all from Dharma Trading, but I'm sure other sources have similar colors.  The recipe is: 1 tsp Rust Brown (#34), 1/2 tsp Bronze (#37), 1/2 tsp Deep Orange (#6) per 8 ounces of water.  Here is my swatch:

I created this color because the rust brown was too red, and none of the other browns had that coppery glow that I was trying for.
I would love to see other custom dyes listed here... how about it?

gorgeous colour Judy! I don't have rust brown but its next on my list Smiley I do a lot of experimenting with teal/aqua shades as none are quite what I like, and some others, I'll check if I've written them down. I like to make unique colours (colors hehe) too Smiley

Indigo Blue - I actually bought an indigo starter kit last year, and still haven't tried it!  But I had a request to dye something in an indigo blue shade last year, so I did some experimenting and came up with this recipe:

Indigo Blue – 8 ounces
3 T Cerulean Blue
½ tsp Deep Orange
¼ tsp Lemon Yellow
1st – full strength
2nd – 1 part full strength, 1 part water
3rd  - 1 part full strength, 2 parts water
4th – 1 part full strength, 3 parts water
You could take this even lighter by following the ratio changes as described above.  I really like this color, and have used it for several shirts.
