There are mentions of many clothing suppliers, in many threads here, but I'm curious:

Who is your favorite supplier and why? As far as price/service/speed/quality? A mention of a certain supplier two years ago may not still be valid, so it seems like a current discussion of their merits & shortcomings is due. Mostly I ask because I'm new here, like many others, and don't even know where to begin. There are so many options and there does not seem to be a list in any one place. I'd love to hear from both the pros with accounts at the big companies and the hobbyists who stick to ordering from non-wholesale sources. TIA for your input!

Lilah

**Along the lines of a list, so far I've heard of:
Alpha
BroderBros
SanMar
SSActivewear
VirginiaTees
AtlanticSportswear
ImprintsWholesale

Non-Wholesale:
iBlankWear
Dharma
Shirt Supplier
Cheapestees
JiffyShirts

(I hope this question is not inappropriate at all.)

Hi, Lilah.  I think this is a very good topic, as we are all trying to find good quality clothing blanks at affordable prices.  I have a client now who has made me stretch and try some new suppliers because she is very particular about the brand and style of clothing she likes.
I use Broder or Americana Sportswear for Bella and Atlantic Sportswear for American Apparel.  I have also used Alegre Fashions for their own brand, Peanut Punch, and occasionally Dharma Trading for items they offer that aren't available elsewhere.  For anything by L.A. T, I use iblankwear.

Hey Lilah,
I've purchased from Dharma, American Apparel and retail. I'm really not crazy about the quality of AA or Dharma products. I like to work with super soft cotton that can withstand lots of washing and maintain shape and softness.

Last year I searched high and low for wholesalers selling great fashion cuts and high quality material. I'm still searching for quality stayle in organic cotton. I don't like working with the basic T-shirt and sweatshirt style. I like working with spandex/cotton.

What I am using right now it TQM,and their other suppliers. I like that TQM will cut your design for a nominal fee. When I pull in a little more bread I want them to pattern palazzo pants for me. I have a couple of more styles in mind too. Their prices are fair considering their quality. If someone is looking to purchase cheap and make a big profit, not happening with this company. But I'd rather buy quality than quantity.

So my search continues for custom tag labels (low quantity), high quality and stylish organic cotton clothes and high end cotton garments with today's stylish fashion trends. I certainly will pass information on.
Oh, BTW, TQM requires resale #

I have been using www.jiffyshirts.com and almost exclusively use the Gildan 2000 6.1 oz. cotton. Jiffy used to carry some American Apparel items which they dropped in favor of a Bella line. Pace, Marg

We use Dharma Trading for almost all of our blanks and I'm curious -- do other suppliers listed offer items sewn with cotton thread?  That makes a big difference to me.

Thanks,

I've found that certain items can be had with cotton thread - iBlankwear has an abundance of LAT and Rabbit Skins items with cotton thread - the PFD Gildan 2000 is easy to get from shirtsupplier.com and some of the wholesalers, , and the rest is luck I guess. Highland Apparel is the only place I've seen the Women's & Youth Gildan 2000 PFD but I don't have wholesale accounts so they may be on offer elsewhere. I always look for organic options, too, as they often have cotton thread.

Thank you, lilah.  I really need to do some checking, I guess.  We like Dharma, but the shipping from California to Florida gets expensive.

Dharma has no products that they produce. They get their blanks for scores of different purveyors. You really can't make generalizations about any blanks or fabric they carry--other than being pricey.

I discovered something cool today that kind-of relates to this thread, so I hope it helps someone here.

For those of you who use Bella: if you go to the Bella website, and look up the item you are interested in, then you may click on "item specs" and it will tell you if that item is sewn with cotton thread. Several of the suppliers carry Bella items, but do not include this information, so I was happy to see it on the site. Obviously, it would be cost prohibitive to order retail from Bella, but the information is useful and you can then buy the items wholesale from the supplier of your choice.

Speaking of Bella -- and I know this is kind of off topic -- has anyone noticed how small they run?  They have a size chart, and their 'Large' is the equivalent to size 6-8!  I've lost a few sales due to their super small sizes!

Yeah, they do run very small. I think they are junior sizing, really. They have some great cuts, but only if the customer is tiny! BTW, has anyone used their baby stuff? I wonder if the toddler sizes run small, too? (You can't always tell by the sizing specs.) I've noticed that the toddler sizes in Rabbit Skins seem to run small, for what it's worth.

I've never seen a toddler size that did not run small. The problem is those age-related sizings, when children vary so much in size at different ages. My younger son was tall from the start and outgrew his size 24-month clothing before he was a year old. It bugged me no end that there were no snap-crotch blank clothes in sizes 3T and 4T, since that's was he was wearing when he was eighteen months old.

(He is twelve years old now, still tall and slim.)

Paula,

My friend has two sons who are the most frequent models of my toddler tie-dyes, and they vary so much in size! The younger has not even been able to use most of his big brother's clothes because he is so much larger at the same age. I have learned to buy a size (or two!) larger in kids clothes, after spending a fair bit on blanks that were all too small!  sad

Oh well. Thanks for your input. It's nice to know the small sizing is not just Rabbit Skins.
